Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena Saturday visited several historical and archaeological sites at Mehrauli Archaeological Park and directed authorities concerned to work out a time-bound plan for their restoration, preservation as well as removal of encroachments from, and around, heritage structures. Accompanied by Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture Meenakshi Lekhi, Saxena instructed officials to take special care in repair and restoration work and directed that carved stones and relics found at these sites, during restoration, be separated and preserved and be kept for proper display in an upcoming museum at the location. They visited the Mehrauli Archaeological Park which houses Balban’s Tomb, Kamali Jamali Mosque and other historical structures, apart from the iconic Qutub Minar. They also visited “Baolis” nestled in the thick reserve forest “Sanjay Van” which is a part of the South Central Ridge near the Qutub Minar in south Delhi. “The restoration and beautification of these places has to be done in coordination between the ASI, DDA and other authorities concerned in the time-bound manner,” Saxena said.
