A sub-inspector was arrested on Wednesday on the charge of extortion and attempt to murder,after a brief firing at the police post in Nehru place. His accomplices,a head constable and a constable of the Delhi Police,are on the run,police said.
According to police,an operator of a coaching centre,who was also in the business of booking tickets,had filed a complaint alleging that Sub-Inspector Nagender,Head Constable Amit Tomar and Constable Kaushal posed as Crime Branch officers and seized the hard disk and his registers stating that printing of railway tickets was illegal.
The complainant alleged that the three took him to the police post at Nehru Place and called his father,demanding Rs 5 lakh for his release. After the amount was paid,the complainant alleged that he was released,but his equipment was not returned.
Additional CP (crime) Ravindra Yadav said,On Wednesday,we sent a team of Crime Branch officials to Nehru Place. Tomar fired a few shots and then fled. Nagender,who also fired at the team,was nabbed. No one sustained any injury.
