All metro stations will operate except the Supreme Court metro station. (Express Archives) The Delhi Police has withdrawn its earlier order requesting closure of certain metro stations and gates during the upcoming G20 summit in the city.
“The request letter for the closure of gates of 39 Metro Stations which was made vide this office letter…dated 02.09.2023 is hereby withdrawn administrative grounds,” reads the new order.
The order, issued on Saturday by DCP Metro G Ram Gopal Naik to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), had proposed complete closure of RK Puram, Sadar Bazar Cantt, IIT, Munirka and Bhikaji Cama Place metro stations from September 8-10 when the summit takes place.
It also recommended shutting of gates at Khan Market, Lajpat Nagar, Kailash Colony, Jangpura, Ashram, Barakhamba Road, Supreme Court, R K Puram, IIT, Hauz Khas, Malviya Nagar, Sadar Bazaar Cantt, Palam, Central Secretariat, Udyog Bhawan, Mandi House, ITO, Delhi gate etc.
However, Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Surender Singh Yadav said on Monday that the closure order has been revoked.
Yadav stated that while traffic restrictions will be in place, people are encouraged to use metro services. All stations will operate, except Supreme Court metro station, subject to security requirements.
“ There will be restrictions on traffic movement but we are encouraging people to use metro services. All metro stations will operate except the Supreme Court metro station. We could close certain gates at sensitive areas but this is subject to security restrictions. This will be done for 10-15 mins only. Other operations will run smoothly” said Yadav.
