An Assistant Sub-Inspector posted at Sabzi Mandi police station and three of his associates were arrested for allegedly using robbing a businessman of lakhs of rupees in Southeast Delhis Sunlight Colony area.
The accused,identified as ASI Rishi Pal (52),and his associates,Ramesh (30),Hussaine (45) and Rahul (30,) reportedly have another robbery case registered against them in Old Delhi.
The incident was reported on March 21,when the complainant,identified as Gauri Shankar Aggarwal,was on his way to Agra with three others. Aggarwal said,We were carrying five silver bricks and Rs 2 lakh in a bag. We stopped at a petrol pump near Millennium Depot and the moment we left,a police officer told us to stop. He said he was checking all vehicles and asked the driver and my friend to step out of the car.
Aggarwal alleged that the police officer and an associate sat in his car. One of the men then started driving my car. When I asked him where they were taking us,the police officer on the rear seat said we were being taken to a senior officer for questioning. He said I was involved in illegal activities. The officer also asked me about the bag in which I was carrying the silver bricks and money, Aggarwal said.
He alleged that after driving them around Delhi for over half an hour,the officer asked the driver to stop the car near ISBT. He took my bag and left the car near ISBT. He threatened to implicate me in a false case if I complained against him. Both of them went to the Innova,which was following our car. The duo then sat in the Innova and fled, Aggarwal said. A case of robbery was registered at Sunlight Colony police station.
During investigation,police spotted the Innova used in the crime near Red Fort on Monday. A team of officers chased the car and nabbed Pals associates. During questioning,they told police that ASI Rishi Pal planned the robbery. Following this,Pal was arrested,police said.
The police are trying to ascertain whether Pal is involved in other robbery cases. Further investigation is underway,police said.
Depressed cop hangs self
NEW DELHI: A 43-year-old Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) posted with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan at his residence in CBI Colony in South Delhis Vasant Vihar area on Tuesday evening. Police said the officer was under treatment for depression at VIMHANS for the past year. Karan Arya was found hanging from the ceiling fan at 4.40 pm,police said. He was under severe depression and was undergoing treatment for the same at VIMHANS, a CBI spokesperson said. Police said no suicide note was found.
Police said he was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Police said Arya,who had joined the unit as a sub-inspector in 1993 had been promoted to the rank of DSP in 2010. Police sources said Aryas colleagues claimed that he was overworked for the past few weeks,which reportedly aggravated his depression. Police said inquest proceedings were underway.
