PM put India on world stage, Obama visit proof: Sukhbir on campaign trail

Badal said that the Delhi government was an extension of the Centre in many aspects.

Badal added that suitable action would be taken if the charges against Majithia are proved. Badal added that suitable action would be taken if the charges against Majithia are proved.

A few days after BJP leaders, especially chief ministerial candidate Kiran Bedi, were criticised by rival parties for using US President Barack Obama’s visit as a poll plank, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Sukhbir Badal did a repeat at a rally in the capital on Tuesday.

Addressing a public gathering in Kalkaji, Badal said, “On the one hand you have an anarchist who was only interested in holding dharnas, while on the other, you have a Prime Minister who has consolidated India’s position in the world. Obama’s visit is a testament to this fact.”

Meanwhile, the Congress slammed Badal for using the Obama visit as a political bargaining chip. Spokesperson for Punjab Congress, Sukhpal Khaira said, “The SAD-BJP alliance has been so badly wrecked by one ordinary man that they are using all means at their command to mislead the people of Delhi. Their defeat is imminent. It displays nothing more than a total bankruptcy of ideas. No Obama and no amount of jugglery of words can save them.”

At the rally in the capital, Badal stressed that Delhi needed a person who could work in tandem with the Union government to usher in development. So, he said, Delhi should reject the AAP and Arvind Kejriwal and vote in a BJP government.

He said the Delhi government was an extension of the Centre in many aspects and it will be to Delhi’s advantage if a BJP government is voted to power.

“When the UPA government was at the Centre, we faced so many hurdles working with Congress. But if you have same governments at Centre and state, it is much more smooth,” Badal said. Speaking of the ‘shady donation’ scandal that the AAP is allegedly involved with, Badal said AAP leaders did not practice what they preached. “It seems to be a clear-cut case of money laundering,” he said.

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and the Union Minister for Food Processing Harsimrat Badal also addressed public meetings in Delhi on Tuesday. While the CM addressed two meetings in Hari Nagar, Harsimrat addressed one meeting.
