Phatlum looks to defend title

With Asian tour stars and the past and present of Indian golf in the field,the third edition of the Women’s Indian Open will roll at the DLF Golf and Country Club from February 25.

With Asian tour stars and the past and present of Indian golf in the field,the third edition of the Women’s Indian Open will roll at the DLF Golf and Country Club from February 25.

With 69 challengers to the total prize money of $120,000,the list will be led by the defending champion Pornanong Phatlum. The 18-year-old’s breakthrough season last year saw her finish second on the Ladies Asian Golf Tour Order of Merit list,and she will look to repeat her dominating performance here from last year. “This golf course brings back very pleasant memories and in many ways I came of age as a golfer here,” the Thai golfer said.

The Indian challenge is led by Smriti Mehra. “I won’t have peace after I retire and don’t win the Indian Open,” she said.

Besides Mehra,there will be some serious challenge coming from the likes of youngsters Nalini Singh,Saaniya Sharma,Pallavi Jain and Sharmila Nicollette.
