Pay family Rs 1 cr or we strike work, says union
'It is shameful to announce a mere Rs 5 lakh in compensation.'

Delhi Transport Corporation employees have threatened to go on strike from Monday to protest the killing of a driver on the bus he was driving on Sunday. The Employees Union has demanded a compensation of Rs 1 crore for the family of driver Ashok Kumar Singh and a job for a family member.
Transport Minister Gopal Rai, meanwhile, announced an immediate compensation of Rs 5 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the bereaved family, and a permanent job in the Transport department for one member of the family. The minister also appointed a nodal officer to clear the payment due to the family, including all benefits Ashok was entitled to.

However, this did not pacify the union. “It is shameful to announce a mere Rs 5 lakh in compensation. There have been cases where they have given compensation of Rs 1 crore. A few of our depots such as Peergarhi, Rohini and Nangloi were shut today in protest. On Monday, every employee will join the protest,” said Rampat Kasana, general secretary Parivahan Mazdoor Sangh, Delhi.
A statement issued by the government said that Rai met Ashok’s family members. “The minister went to Rohini-III DTC depot and listened to the grievances of drivers and also held a meeting with police.”
