After a tumultuous relationship over the last few years,Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Urban Development Minister for State Ajay Maken seem to have buried the hatchet ahead of the D-day on May 7. On Friday, the two arrived together at the Deputy Commissioners office in Jam Nagar House to file Makens nomination papers from the New Delhi seat.
Maken visited the chief minister at her 3,Motilal Nehru Marg residence and, with Dikshit by her side, then proceeded to file his nomination.
Though the two kept a formal distance and posed for the cameras with a V sign,Dikshit, those close to the leaders said, wished him the best before leaving for Jam Nagar House.
The two are known to never have never seen eye-to-eye while Maken was Power Minister in Dikshits cabinet before he contested the general elections in 2004 and later became Urban Development Minister for State in 2006. Rifts between the two became wider during the court-ordered sealing and demolition drive carried out by the MCD three years back. Each passed the buck on to the other.
With Maken using Masterplan-2021 and the consequent relief brought in by the Congress government as a poll issue this time, party insiders said he is trying to project a united front with Dikshit as he shares a chunk of his constituency with her. Dikshit is also MLA from the New Delhi Assembly seat that comprises many areas that are part of Makens electorate.
