Collapse of ceiling and wall of dargah near Humayun’s Tomb: Negligence case lodged, toll rises to 7
Six people were killed and four others were injured when the ceiling and wall of a structure that was a part of the Dargah Sharif Patte Shah in Delhi collapsed on Friday evening.

(Credit: Tashi Tobgyal)A day after the ceiling and a wall of a dargah near the Humayun’s Tomb complex in Delhi collapsed, the police on Saturday registered a first information report (FIR) against unknown persons in the matter.
While six persons were declared dead on Friday following the incident, the toll increased to seven on Saturday.
The FIR has been registered at the Hazrat Nizamuddin police station under sections 290 (negligent conduct with respect to pulling down, repairing or constructing buildings), 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The ceiling and wall of a two-room structure, a part of the Dargah Sharif Patte Shah located adjacent to the Humayun’s Tomb complex, had collapsed in Southeast Delhi’s Nizamuddin.
Three of the deceased have been identified so far. They are 79-year-old Swaroop Chand from Malkaganj, 37-year-old Moinuddin from Zakir Nagar, and 58-year-old Anita Saini from Bhogal.
The remaining include a 56-year-old woman and her 25-year-old woman from Vasant Kunj Enclave and a 25-year-old man from Sangam Vihar.
On Saturday, a 37-year-old man from Nawada in Bihar was also declared dead.
At least 12 people were pulled out from the debris, and multiple agencies, including the police, the Delhi Fire Services, National Disaster Response Force and the Delhi Disaster Management Authority, were involved in the rescue operation.
