With the Arvind Kejriwal government having bowed out without passing the budget, Parliament did the needful on Friday by allocating Rs 18,033 crore to the capital for six months of the next fiscal.
The Delhi Appropriation and vote-on-account bills were passed by voice vote in both the Houses. Parliament also gave a nod for the third batch of supplementary demand for the grants of Rs 363.05 crore for rest of the ongoing 2013-14 fiscal. It approved the vote on account budget of Rs 35,423.59 crore for 2013-2014.
“The budget of Delhi for 2014-15 is being presented and vote-on-account is sought to enable the government to carry on its business and meet essential expenditure for a period of six months of the 2014-15 fiscal,” Minister of State for Finance Namo Narain Meena said while moving the bills in the Upper House.
The subsidy on power bills, approved by the Delhi Assembly, will be given only until March, a senior Finance department official said.
“Delhi Appropriation Bill, 2014, authorising payment and appropriation of sums from the Consolidated Fund of NCT of Delhi for Financial Year 2013-14 and Delhi Appropriation (Vote on Account Bill, 2014) providing for withdrawal of funds from the Consolidated Fund of NCT of Delhi for six months of the financial year 2014-15 were passed by Parliament today,” a government statement said.
