Papers of 2 blacklisted firms stolen from Vyapar Bhawan

The Delhi Police is investigating a burglary at the Vyapar Bhawan where the documents of two blacklisted companies were stolen, torn and erased. With the burglars tampering with the documents of only two companies, and leaving valuables and files of other companies untouched, police suspect the role of an insider from the Vyapar Bhawan.

Police said the inquiry report in the files relating to both the companies were stolen. Preliminary investigations revealed that a few pages were also replaced.

Sources in the police said the theft and ransacking was reported on January 12 when an office boy found the lock of one of the rooms broken. An internal inquiry by officials of Vyapar Bhawan found that no goods were missing. However, the almirah inside the office was broken into and officials noted tampering with the two files.

“At least 50 pages from the two files of the two companies are missing. Several important pages have been torn. The investigation reports are erased. There were other files as well, but the tampering and theft related to documents of only the two companies,” said a police source.

“Last week we were told that the data of taxes related to one of the companies was found replaced. The burglar wanted to give the impression that the replaced copy is the original one. This cannot be done without the help of an insider,” said the source.

Also, the lower half of a few pages was torn out and the top remained in the files, police said.

The targeted almirah contained files of several blacklisted companies, which had come under the scanner of the Department of Trade and Taxes,Delhi government. Sources said the inquiry related to the companies had been forwarded by the Economic Offences Wing.
