The AAP on Thursday alleged that a deal had been struck between the BJP and Congress, as per which the Opposition party would walk out from the Rajya Sabha when it puts to vote the ordinance that gives overarching powers to the Delhi lieutenant governor over the elected government and puts bureaucrats over ministers.

Responding to questions on whether her party’s leaders would pull out from the Opposition parties’ meeting in Patna on Friday, AAP national spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar said, “I have no information about this. Our top leaders will attend the meeting and it will be their decision. But reliable sources have told us that there is an agreement between the BJP and the Congress and when this unconstitutional ordinance will be presented in the Rajya Sabha, the Congress will walk out. I do not understand why the Congress is taking so long to take a stand on an ordinance which is clearly unconstitutional. They have to make their stand clear.”

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal wrote to Opposition leaders on Wednesday asking that the first order of business in Friday’s meeting be the Centre’s ordinance in the national capital. “The central government has done an experiment by bringing such an ordinance in the context of Delhi. If the central government succeeds in this experiment, then one by one it will issue similar ordinances for all non-BJP states and take away the officers of the states from all the subjects given in the concurrent list. That is why it becomes very important that all the parties and all the people together do not allow it to be passed in Parliament under any circumstances,” he wrote.

Earlier in the day, news came that AAP was pulling out of the Patna meeting if the Congress did not promise its support against the Delhi ordinance. A senior AAP leader, however, said there was no such plan and that senior leaders including Kejriwal would be present at the meeting.

Kakkar, meanwhile, alleged that the Congress was planning to follow the same template that it followed during the MCD elections, when the party’s councillors walked out. “They have done this in the MCD elections. By walking out, they supported the BJP,” she said.
