ONGC,SESA enter final round with convincing wins

ONGC FC,Mumbai scored emphatic 2-0 win over New Delhi Heroes at the Dr Ambedkar Stadium on Wednesday in the Second Division League.

ONGC FC,Mumbai scored emphatic 2-0 win over New Delhi Heroes at the Dr Ambedkar Stadium on Wednesday in the Second Division League. After a barren first half,former international striker SK Tarif Ahmed scored both goals for ONGC FC Mumbai in the 65th and in the second minute of added time.

Tempers spilled over in the searing heat as N D Heroes Nigerian striker Babatunde was shown the red card in the 84th minute by match referee Vishnu Chauhan for elbowing ONGC stopper Gour Naskar while Amjad Ali Khan,Bijender Kr Bhardwaj,Kumar Mangrat and Rishi Kapur along with ONGC FC’s Kamla Thapa were shown the yellow card.

ONGC should have won with a bigger margin but were guilty of wasting several opportunities coming their way. In the 18th minute,midfielder Jatin Singh Bisht’s long ranger was blocked by goalkeeper Rajat Guha. Striker Babmas Babatunde wasted a golden chance when he failed to head in a corner inside an empty goal.

In the other match of the day,SESA Football Academy,Goa overcame Indian National FC,Delhi 2-0 with goals by midfielder Sidroy Alfonso in the 14th minute of the game before Savio Corneiro scored in the 87th minute to seal the fate of the Delhi club.

ONGC and SESA have both qualified for the final round from Group B with the latter topping the tally with 15 points from 6 matches. ONGC came second with thirteen points while DSA league champions Hindustan FC finished third with 10 points.
