On fifth day of nomination,383 candidates file papers for MCD elections

Fifth day of the nomination for the MCD polls 383 nominations were filed. Majority of the nominations,94,were submitted from the BSP. Candidates from regional parties like CPI,NCP,RJD,and JLSP also filed their nominations.

Meanwhile,fearing clashes among party workers,Congress and BJP deferred release of their lists of candidates to Sunday night.

National leaders have been asked to help finalise the list. Congress president Sonia Gandhi has nominated AICC treasurer Moti Lal Vohra as in-charge of the election committee,and senior BJP leaders M Venkaiah Naidu and Nitin Gadkari are finalising the list of their candidates,sources said.

BJP hopefuls protested outside Naidu’s Aurangzeb Road residence. Congress members also crowded around the house of Sheila Dikshit and J P Agarwal.

There was dissent among Congress members against MP Krishna Tirath,with the Northwest parliamentary constituency becoming the most disputed area. Seven MLAs and two senior leaders of the constituency have reportedly sent a complaint against Tirath to Sonia Gandhi and Sheila Dikshit.
