The INDIA bloc — including the Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Samajwadi Party (SP) — held a Lok Sabha campaign in Gurgaon Friday after Congress’s candidate Raj Babbar filed his nomination for the polls. Haryana votes on May 25.

Slamming BJP candidate and sitting MP Rao Inderjit Singh over his “Babbar is an outsider” statement, the latter said: “Na toh main bahari hoon aur na hi bhari hoon.”

Babbar, who addressed the public Friday, was accompanied by former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Haryana Congress president Udai Bhan, and MLA Aftab Ahmed. Highlighting that he has already made a “home in people’s hearts”, Babbar said: “A senior Congress leader asked me if I was interested in contesting from Haryana, and I realised that I wanted to. I have spent many years in Mumbai and Delhi, and wanted to be in the neighbouring city, Gurgaon.”

Hitting out at state-run agencies like Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority and the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran for not managing civic works in the city properly, Babbar said, “They only want revenue from the city”. “If the city has developed over the last 10 years, you don’t have to vote for me. Land prices have gone up, but do people have basic amenities here?… I’m not against a person, I am against the issues faced by residents here.”
