“The detained persons will have to give us a signed personal bond if they wish to be released. However,we will send them to jail in case they do not give us the bonds,” Additional Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) K C Dwivedi said.

Waving miniature India flags, protesters shouted anti-corruption and anti-government slogans. Inder Sharma (65),a retired Home Ministry official who was detained, said,“Everyone who was concerned about the country’s integrity must participate in the protest.”

An eight-year-old student of GD Goenka School, who was part of the protest, said: “We came here to because my mother told me that there is corruption in the country and Anna is fighting for a Lokpal Bill.”

An hour later, the narrow lanes outside the house were clogged as the number of protesters, and of mediapersons, swelled.

At 7 am,when Anna was whisked away from gate number 1,which had relatively fewer mediapersons in a white Innova, the crowds began to follow his car. Waving India flags, the supporters even managed to stop the police entourage carrying Hazare, near Chilla village.

Sahib Singh, who came from Noida and stationed himself at the housing society at 5.30 in the morning, said,“He has done nothing wrong. His arrest is wrong and we will try and block the roads.”

Hazare’s supporters sat on the road to block way and refused to move. Many even tried to approach the car that was carrying him.
