Noida roads struggle with growing traffic volume

Chief Traffic Inspector Saifuddin Baig said,“This road is one of the arterial roads of the city. Most of the commuters who do not want to pay the DND toll use this stretch. Moreover,the road leads directly to the ITO junction in Delhi.”

Officials are,however,hopeful that the problem will alleviate when the road outside the Rashtriya Dalit Prerna Sthal is widened. “The road is being made eight-lane. After that,the situation will get better,” said Baig.

Model Town Crossing,Sec-62

The Model Town Crossing has been plagued by traffic problem for about three years now. The junction is where vehicles from Ghaziabad and Noida merges. Traffic officials said since residential constructions have come up in Indirapuram and other regions in Ghaziabad,the traffic situation has become worse. “What makes the area even more congested is the fact that people use the crossing to enter Noida if they want to get to Sector 70 or beyond. They avoid going through the city,” said a traffic official.

They said while there are no concrete plans in place for the area,a flyover is being considered. “It is only in the discussion phase,and no movement has taken place in that regard. But,the modalities are being considered,” an official said.

Noida Sec-14 Crossing

The traffic congestion at the Sector-14 Crossing affects the Film City stretch as well. Traffic officials said for commuters entering Noida and going towards Rajnigandha Chowk,the crossing has become a sticking point because motorists take a right towards the crossing at Film City to avoid the jam in front of the Rashtriya Dalit Prerna Sthal.

An official said,“If you take the right,it leads you straight into the heart of the city. But as it is always congested,considering that it marks the beginning of the market area in Noida,jams occur often.

Just beyond the crossing lies the overhead Metro line, because of which there are traffic lights every 500 metres.

While there are no specific plans for the crossing,the Traffic Police said widening of the Film City stretch may help ease the problem. “Once the road is widened,people won’t have to take the turn to avoid the traffic on the Mahamaya stretch. Other than that,very little that can be done,” a traffic officer said.
