What was initially thought to be a case of killing in self-defence of a GRP cop in Gurgaon has turned out to be a case of premeditated murder by the son of the deceased who was upset with his father over property dispute, among other issues, said police. On November 2, Rajbir Yadav, 50, an assistant sub-inspector with the Government Railway Police (GRP), was shot dead at his home in Sector 10-A. At the time, his wife Sarita had told police that she killed Rajbir in self-defence after he shot at her. However, following investigation, police found that Rajbir's son Yash, 25, had shot him dead and shot at his mother to mislead the police, officials said. Yash was arrested Tuesday along with his accomplice Akshay alias Chirag (20) near Basai Enclave while another aide, Sahabram (48), was nabbed in Shikohpur village. Sarita was arrested on November 3. On November 2, a complaint was received that Rajbir and his wife Sarita had been shot and injured, and were admitted to the hospital. By the time police reached the hospital, Rajbir had died. ACP (Crime) Varun Dahiya said that according to Sarita's initial statement, she had shot Rajbir dead when they were having a scuffle in which she also sustained an injury. However, Rajbir's brother informed the police through a written complaint that the deceased had an ongoing conflict with his wife and son, adding that the cop had been staying away from home for a while now. It was only on October 31 that Rajbir had gone to his house where he was killed on November 2. He was posted in Rewari district. Police said investigation revealed that Yash killed Rajbir, and shot his mother in the arm as part of their plan. ACP Dahiya said Yash had been requesting his father to transfer the property in his name, but Rajbir was not willing to do so. Besides, Yash, who was married but was living separately from his wife, was having an extra-marital affair that Rajbir did not approve of, said police. Yash, along with his accomplice Akshay, bought a pistol for Rs 60,000 to use in the murder, said police. One pistol and three empty cartridges used in the incident were seized from the crime scene, they added. In the complaint, Rajbir’s brother Satbir accused Yash of conspiring with his mother to kill his father, who had disowned him due to his supposed affair. “He (Rajbir) had told me that Sarita and Yash wanted his wealth and feared they would do something to him. On October 31, Rajbir returned home and informed me that he had been called over by his father-in-law who expressed concern that Yash was threatening to shoot another relative,” Satbir alleged in the complaint. Yash and his accomplices have been arrested under sections of murder, criminal conspiracy, and Arms Act.
