No more property tax in rural residential areas in Delhi: MCD Mayor
The MCD Friday held a high-level meeting with property tax officials instructing them not to collect taxes from these areas.
Reversing the BJP’s decision, directions have been given that house tax notices will not be sent to any rural residential areas, said the mayor.Property tax will not be collected from rural residential areas from now, MCD Mayor Shelly Oberoi announced Saturday.
“During the 15 years of the BJP administration in the MCD, people were greatly troubled by property tax notices being sent… Reversing the BJP’s decision, directions have been given that house tax notices will not be sent to any rural residential areas and house tax will not be collected from them in future,” she said.
The MCD Friday held a high-level meeting with property tax officials instructing them not to collect taxes from these areas. “Property tax will not be collected from rural areas across all 70 constituencies in Delhi, be it lal dora or extended lal dora,” Deputy Mayor Aaley Iqbal said.
Chaudhary Surendra Solanki, head of 360 MCD villages, was also present during the meetings. He said, “We’d also taken this decision in the panchayat of Piragadhi and are pleased our concerns have been heard. We hope our other issues will also be addressed soon.”
Property tax will be collected as usual from all designated commercial areas under the MCD. There are 2,138 notified roads by the MCD where commercial taxes will apply, but if someone from a village is engaged in small-scale employment, they won’t be taxed, officials said.
