To enhance water conservation and prevent urban flooding in Lutyens’ Delhi, Vice-Chairperson of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and BJP leader Kuljeet Chahal visited Surat, Gujarat, Saturday, to gain insight into innovative rainwater harvesting, flood management, and water conservation practices.
He was accompanied by NDMC officials. The visit has been organised as part of NDMC’s mission to redevelop 272 existing rainwater harvesting pits and construct 101 new ones.
In his statement, Chahal said that these efforts are intended to eliminate waterlogging in the NDMC area.
“The NDMC is committed to adopting proven models and building on them to ensure a water-secure and waterlogging-free future for New Delhi,” Chahal said.
“Surat’s journey is not only inspiring but also serves as a blueprint for every city aspiring to combine technology, planning, and environmental responsibility.”
NDMC officials have already laid out detailed plans to upgrade the drainage system and implement waterlogging prevention measures across the Council’s jurisdiction.
