Poems became the weapon of choice for the capital’s two principal political protagonists to take on each other Friday. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) renewed its attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s academic qualifications through a poem, purportedly written by former Delhi education minister Manish Sisodia from behind bars, referring to the “shaking foundations” of a “4th pass king’s rajmahal (palace)”.

Dubbing Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who released his deputy’s open letter on Twitter, ‘Farjiwal’, the BJP was quick to go on the offensive with Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva in a poem of his own, demanding when he would show ‘his rajmahal’ to the public, repeat the “pretense of being a common man” and seek to save “corrupt Sisodia by lying.”

Sisodia’s untitled poem sought to underline the importance of educating the children of the poor and questioning politics based on a “web of communal hatred.” The BJP retaliated by issuing a warning that “every corrupt person’s time would come.”

“If every poor person gets a book, who will trigger a storm of hatred? If everyone gets work, then who will brandish swords in the streets? If the child of every poor family gets education, the foundations of the 4th class King’s palace will shake,” he wrote.

Sisodia further went on to say that quality education for children from every poor family would ensure that no one fell into the trap of a “WhatsApp University” and that society did not get embroiled in the “web of communal hatred”.

If every child in society was educated, they would question the “cunningness” and “bad policies” of their government and pick up a pen to articulate their own “Mann ki Baat”, Sisodia also wrote.

The education revolution, he added, which had begun in Delhi and Punjab government schools, would soon spread across the country, he stated, adding, “Throw us in jail or hang us, this caravan will not stop.”

Responding to the AAP’s renewed attack on Modi over the issue of the latter’s academic qualifications, Sachdeva alleged took on the Chief Minister over the issue of his official residence having been renovated for Rs. 45 crore and alleged liquor contracts which were awarded illegally under the withdrawn Delhi excise policy.

“Liquor was distributed by AAP leaders who spoke of Swaraj and “gifted” Delhi liquor shops at each Mohalla instead of Mohalla Sabhas. With what authority are liquor brokers speaking of education? Neither a school nor a hospital was built. The fraudster continued to cheat Delhi on the basis of lies, hoaxes and propaganda” Sachdeva wrote in a poem of his own.

“The truth will come out, every secret will also be exposed. Right now the screws are tightening on the pawns, one day the mastermind will also go to jail. This fury betrays what you feel. You may decorate your palace, but your address is Tihar Jail” he added.
