MoE schedules week-long ‘Shiksha Saptah’ in Delhi, celebrates four years of NEP 2020

Focusing on education and development, each day of the week will have a specific theme, said Samagra Shiksha

The Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Education (MoE) has begun its week-long observance of ‘Shiksha Saptah’ (Education Week) on Monday, to mark the fourth anniversary of the National Education Policy 2020. The event is scheduled from July 22 to July 28 with the first day being observed as the Teaching-Learning Material (TLM) Day.

The Directorate of Education (DoE) announced on X (formerly twitter), “We’re celebrating ‘Shiksha Saptah’ from 22-28 July, 2024 on the eve of 4th Anniversary of National Education Policy (NEP 2020). Let’s honour the National Education Policy by empowering our students with knowledge and opportunities for a brighter future.”

On July 11, Samagra Shiksha, a society under the Delhi Education Department, issued a circular that read: “This event, organised under the ambit of the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India, aims to present a common platform to resonate and live the spirit of achievements gained over the last four years of NEP 2020 implementation.” Focusing on various aspects of education and development, each day of the week is dedicated to a specific theme, it said.

The first day, July 22, is to be observed as the TLM Day. The objective is to understand the impact of TLM materials on learning.

The Education Ministry on X said, “The objective is to motivate educators to use local resources to demonstrate high-quality, curriculum-aligned Teaching Learning Materials. The emphasis is on fostering participation that enables institutions to establish a dynamic learning atmosphere that places student learning outcomes at the forefront.”

The schools were directed to prepare in advance for the event. Along with, the circular had guidelines to hold grade-wise activities. The schools have been required to host an exhibition with special stalls, musical demonstrations, literary displays, TLM exhibits including flashcards and models by teachers, and demonstration classes on Monday.

On Tuesday, Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) Day is to be observed with an objective of “generating greater awareness among all stakeholders for successful implementation”.

Similarly, Sports Day, Cultural Day, Skilling and Digital Initiatives Day, Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE or School Nutrition Day, and Community Involvement Day are to be observed, respectively, till Sunday.

The Heads of the Schools have been instructed to celebrate the week-long event as per the guidelines by the State Project Director. The Deputy Directors of Education for all zones have to submit the collected compilation of the event’s data to their District Deputy Director.
