Meet the 18 Delhi cops awarded for their meritorious service this I-Day
Among other achievements, Vasudeo has been credited for working hard to reinitiate Jansunwai, the grievance redressal initiative of the Delhi Police.

For reviving the Jansunwai system, playing an important role during the G20 Summit and being part of a team that cracked Swiss national Nina Berger’s murder case, 18 Delhi Police officers will be conferred medals this Independence Day for their meritorious service in the force.
Here are the recipients:
n Joint Commissioner of Police (Operations) Atmaram Vasudeo Deshpande and retired Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Shashi Bala have been conferred the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service.
Among other achievements, Vasudeo has been credited for working hard to reinitiate Jansunwai, the grievance redressal initiative of the Delhi Police.
Bala, during her tenure as ACP of New Delhi district, has been credited for efficiently looking after routes of VVIPs. She also functioned as Special Executive Magistrate and trained around 30,000 students in self-defence techniques.
n Joint CP (Rashtrapati Bhawan) Suman Goyal and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rajneesh Garg have been conferred medals for meritorious service.
According to police, Goyal played an important role during the G20 Summit, managing foreign ministers at airports and facilitating their travel and managing security. She introduced the Udaan Project during her tenure in the North district and introduced pink cabs in coordination with travel agencies for women cab drivers.
Garg was the venue commander of Lalit Hotel and was instrumental in ensuring VVIP security during the G20 Summit, police said.
n Another recipient of the medal, ACP Arvind Kumar, was a key investigator of Swiss national Nina Berger’s murder case and the Hari Nagar triple murder case last year, police said. He was also a key member in solving the bomb blast case of Satyam Liberty cinema and Sarojini Nagar market.
n Other officers, including ACPs Satyapal Singh, Arvind Kumar, Renu Lata, Niraj Tokas, Dinesh Chander Pundora; inspectors Devender Kumar, Dinesh Kumar Sharma, Rakesh Singh Rana and Satender Poonia; sub-inspectors Shahjehan S, Surender Singh and Virender Singh; and two officers from the Mounted Unit of Delhi Police, SI Suresh Kumar and Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Hansraj, will also get the police medal for meritorious service.
Delhi Fire Service officials will also be conferred six medals for gallantry, distinguished service, and meritorious service. Deputy Fire Officer S K Dua, who headed and supervised mostly all major fire operations in the city, will be conferred the President’s Medal for distinguished service.
Assistant Divisional Officer Rajesh Kumar, fire operators Praveen Kumar and Ajmer Singh, will be awarded the gallantry medal. Divisional officer Sandeep Duggal and Assistant Divisional Officer Manish Kumar will be awarded medals for their meritorious service.
In Gurgaon, Police Commissioner Vikas Kumar Arora has been awarded the President’s Medal for distinguished service, officials said. The 1998-batch IPS officer took over the role last August and has also served as the Faridabad Commissioner.
According to officials, Superintendent of Police (Nuh) Vijay Pratap has been given the police medal for meritorious service along with Gurgaon Police inspector Anil Kumar, Om Prakash of IRB Bhondsi, and Inspector Santosh of RTC (Recruit Training Centre), Bhondsi.
