Ahead of the municipal polls, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has decided to go strict against those who deface public property by pasting posters. According to MCD officials, the civic agency will send notices to those politicians whose hoardings and posters are put up illegally. Along with the notices, there will also be a penalty of Rs 5,000 per hoarding, said an MCD official. We will charge Rs 5,000 for removal of hoardings from those whose name and contact number is listed on the poster. If anyone wants to congratulate any senior leader through hoarding, that person will be penalised. If there is no name,we will penalise the politician whose face is printed on the poster, said the official. No posters are allowed on electricity poles or streetlights. J K Sharma,Leader of Opposition in the MCD,said it will be hard to justify the penalty levied on those whose name is printed on hoardings or posters without their consent. In politics,we have several rivals and well wishers,if someone deliberately puts my face on a hoarding, how am I being liable for the act. This could also be misused by the rivals, Sharma said. Jagdish Mamgain,Chairman of MCD Works Committee, said,There are posters where faces of Sonia Gandhi and L K Advani are used by many. Would MCD penalise them also? he said.
