Video of man getting thrashed for feeding stray dog triggers protest in Gurgaon, cops assure action
On Monday, a delegation of animal lovers, including a team from Stand for Animals, an NGO that works for animal welfare, met senior police officers over the incident that happened on August 23.

Days after a purported video of a man feeding a stray dog in Gurgaon’s Sector 28 getting thrashed went viral, police have assured those protesting against the incident that an action will be initiated soon in the matter.
The video shows a man hitting and abusing another man feeding a stray dog. “How dare you come here? Who told you to? Fool, even after the Supreme Court order you’re here…..”, the man is heard saying in the video, threatening the person with physical harm
On Monday, a delegation of animal lovers, including a team from Stand for Animals, an NGO that works for animal welfare, met senior police officers over the incident that happened on August 23.
“Following the recommendation of the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), the case will be presented to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP). The DCP will summon the alleged perpetrators and initiate the necessary legal action. Also, a Non-Cognizable Report is scheduled to be filed in the district court on September 1, 2025,” Stand for Animals founder Sudhir Sachdeva told The Indian Express. On September 2, the delegation will need to engage legal counsel to represent their interests and facilitate the issuance of summons to the accused individuals, he added, which will mark the commencement of court proceedings.
The incident comes amid the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) planning to scale up vaccination and sterilisation of stray dogs in the wake of the Supreme Court’s latest order last week. Modifying its August 11 order, which directed that all stray dogs in Delhi-NCR need to be locked up, the top court last week said stray dogs in Delhi-NCR would be released in the area where they were collected from, after sterilisation, deworming, and vaccination.
The civic body, through its tie-up with two NGOs, supervises work at two animal birth control (ABC) centres — at Baliawas and Kherki Majra — according to its Joint Commissioner Preetpal Singh. He had told The Indian Express that so far in 2025, over 20,000 dogs have been vaccinated and sterilised at these centres.
The MCG is looking to push the number of vaccinations and sterilisations from 300 to 1,200 a month, once the number of centres is taken to four – one for each zone – in the coming months, said officials.
“The two existing centres are neither big enough, nor do they have sufficient amenities to be turned into shelters. So far, as per the ABC rules, we were putting the dogs back in their neighbourhoods after vaccination, treatment or sterilisation,” Singh had said.
