A 28-year-old unemployed teacher in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district shot his 24-year-old wife dead and then died by suicide on Wednesday night, police said on Thursday.
According to the police, the man was a teacher at a coaching institute in Delhi but lost his job after the place shut down two years ago. He then opened a coaching centre in his village but it was not a success and led to frequent skirmishes between the couple who have two sons.
“My son and his wife were in their room when we heard them fighting over monetary affairs which had become a routine in the last year. Suddenly we heard gunshots. By the time we rushed to their room, both were lying on the floor in a pool of blood. Their kids were sleeping with us in another room,” the man’s father said.
The murder weapon, a country-made pistol, was recovered and the bodies were handed over to the family members after the post-mortem examination, the police said.
“The couple got married five years ago. All was well till he was employed but after he lost his job, the family faced monetary trouble, which led to frequent fights between the two. They were taken to a hospital where the doctors declared them brought dead,” Amroha Deputy Superintendent of Police Shwetabh Bhaskar said.
