A wedding ceremony turned tragic when the grooms brother drove a Skoda Octavia over a seven-year-old boy sleeping at the entrance of the venue in Kavinagar,Ghaziabad,around 1.30 am on Friday,killing the child instantly. Police said Sachin,son of the brides uncle Sanjay Singh,was rushed to a nearby hospital,but doctors declared him dead on arrival. Ramkumar,the grooms brother who is an automobile spare parts dealer in Delhi,has been arrested. A police officer said: At the end of the ceremony,Ramkumar drove the car,which was to take Poonam and Rahul (whose marriage it was) home,right into the decorated compound where the wedding took place. It was 1.30 am and young Sachin was sleeping on a mattress near the gate. Ramkumar failed to notice that and the childs torso came under the wheels of the car. His ribs were completely crushed. Police suspect that Ramkumar was probably drunk. We have conducted an alcohol test. The report will be out soon. A case of causing causing death due to negligence has been filed against him at Kavinagar police station, the officer said. Following the incident,enraged members of the brides family assaulted Ramkumar and smashed the car windows. Two police teams went to the spot to prevent the situation from going out of control. The boys family was initially hesitating to file a complaint because Ramkumar is the grooms brother. However,a family member went to the police station and registered a compliant,on the basis of which an FIR was lodged, the officer said. Both families when contacted refused to speak.
