Man robbed of scooter, Rs 4.5 lakh in Kashmere Gate; 4 on run

A 56-year-old man was robbed of around Rs 4.5 lakh and his scooter allegedly by four persons while he was returning after withdrawing money from bank in Kashmere Gate Tuesday, officers said.

Police said a person named Sunil Kumar Jain said that he was coming from Khoya Mandi in Kashmere Gate and going to his residence in Shahdara when the incident took place. Said an officer, “He stopped to take a call and in the meantime, one scooter with two persons asked him for money while pointing a pistol-like object. Then a motorcycle came and one person came to Jain and asked him to give the keys to his vehicle”. DCP (North) Sagar Singh Kalsi said that the victim had said that he had kept around Rs 4.5 lakh in his scooter. A case has been lodged.

Ujjwal Jain, the victim’s son, told The Indian Express, “My father was returning from the bank when he stopped at the Kashmere Gate flyover and parked his scooter at a corner and received a call…The accused fled and my father had to take an auto-rickshaw back home…he used to regularly take the route and withdraw money from the bank”.

Meanwhile, a group of unknown men robbed a banana godown at gunpoint in Wazirabad on Tuesday night. Police said the accused decamped with Rs 3 lakh, a gold chain and a bunch of raw bananas. No arrests have been made yet. DCP Kalsi said, “The complainant gets raw bananas from Maharashtra and sells them. On Tuesday, he alleged that he and his brother were inside the godown when a man entered the godown, followed by three others. They had helmets, pistol and two knives. They threatened the victims and looted them.” A case under robbery and Arms Act has been registered.
