Man killed after outdoor unit of AC falls on him: Owner blames monkeys
Police, meanwhile, have registered a case against the building owner under section 106 (death due to negligence) of BNS.

Days after an 18-year-old man was killed and his friend injured when the outdoor unit of an air conditioner fell on them from a building in Karol Bagh, the owner of the unit blamed it on “monkeys”.
The owner, who lives on the second floor of the three-storey building that she owns in Gali no. 2, Dori Wala, said monkeys were a common menace in the area. “These things keep happening here. The children were standing on the road and the monkeys were probably hanging onto the AC,” she said.
The owner’s 18-year-old son, in fact, was a friend of the victim Jitesh (18) and the injured boy Pranshu (17). It was him they had come to meet on Saturday when the incident took place.
Police, meanwhile, have registered a case against the building owner under section 106 (death due to negligence) of BNS.
Around 6.45 pm, CCTV footage showed, Jitesh and Pranshu got out of the building and were talking for a few minutes. Jitesh was sitting on his scooter. He lived in the same area, just across the road. He was planning to drop Pranshu at his Patel Nagar home.
Just as the two friends hugged, the AC fell. It hit Pranshu’s head and crashed on Jitesh. He fell off his scooter, with the AC on him.
The AC’s owner said, “My younger son heard the crash. He rushed down and found Jitesh and Pranshu on the road, with blood pouring out of their heads. He called me. I came and wrapped my dupatta around Jitesh’s head while pleading with neighbours for help — no one came forward. My son then ran to call Jitesh’s family. They took him on the scooter to the hospital.” The woman, whose husband is in government service, then called an ambulance to take Pranshu to the hospital. Jitesh was declared dead on arrival. Pranshu was in critical condition and shifted to Sitaram Bhartia Institute of Science and Research in Katwaria Sarai.
On Monday, when The Indian Express visited the lane, Jitesh’s family was seen sitting near the entrance of their building. On being approached, they sought privacy and refused to talk.
A neighbour said, “We have seen Jitesh many times here, with his friends. And then suddenly, this happens…”
Police said they are ascertaining the cause of the collapse and argued that it’s difficult to say monkeys caused it. “The AC was well set. But it was hanging out… It can be because of a lack of support or any other reason… The crime team is investigating the scene,” said a police officer at Desh Bandhu Park police station.
An officer also said that Pranshu is now out of danger and he is stable.
At the hospital, staff said that Pranshu was on painkillers and not in a condition to speak.
