Man held from Agra for ‘raping’ US national
“The woman stayed at the accused’s homestay, where they began a relationship which continued for three years,” said an officer.

A 32-year-old man was arrested from Uttar Pradesh’s Agra for allegedly raping a US national on the pretext of marrying her, police said Monday.
A senior officer identified the accused as Gagandeep, who owns a homestay in Agra. The complainant told police that she met the accused in 2017 when she had come to visit India, said the officer.
“The woman stayed at the accused’s homestay, where they began a relationship which continued for three years,” said an officer.
The officer said the accused allegedly took the woman to Shahdara and Amritsar. “On one instance, the accused even gave her a spiked drink that left her unconscious… he also took 35 US dollars from her and never returned it,” the officer added.
In 2020, the woman found out that the accused was married and had a family in Agra.
“We received a complaint that he raped the woman on the pretext of marrying her. On May 5, the complainant approached police in Delhi, then she was sent for counselling. The accused’s location was traced and he was arrested,” said DCP (Shahdara) Rohit Meena.
A case was registered under IPC sections pertaining to rape, causing hurt by means of poison, etc., with intent to commit an offence.
