Man,grandson run over by speeding car

A Man and his grandson were run over by a speeding Honda City car coming from the wrong direction in Alipur area of Outer Delhi on Sunday. A woman also sustained injuries in the accident which occurred around 3 pm.

A Man and his grandson were run over by a speeding Honda City car coming from the wrong direction in Alipur area of Outer Delhi on Sunday. A woman also sustained injuries in the accident which occurred around 3 pm.

Police officials said a 17-year-old boy was driving the car under the supervision of his 18-year-old friend. There was a Delhi Police sticker on the car.

The deceased,Bhagwan Das (55) and his grandson Rajat Das (5),were residents of Sonepat in Haryana and had come to Delhi to attend the last rites of a relative at Bakhtawarpur village in Alipur.

“Das and his grandson were crossing the GT Karnal Road along with a few other people to board a bus for Sonepat when they were hit by the speeding Honda City. The young driver lost control on the car after he attempted to apply brakes and crashed into a stationary crane in the area. All three persons suffered severe injuries,” a senior police official said. Bhagwan Das and his grandson were returning after offering prayers at Shani Temple in Bakauli area,they added.

The police rushed all three injured to the nearby Maharishi Balmiki Hospital,where the man and his grandson were declared brought dead. The woman was discharged later in the evening.

“We have transferred the bodies to Raja Harish Chand Hospital Mortuary,where a post mortem examination is expected to take place on Monday,” a senior police official said.

Police have impounded the car (DL-4C-HC-2649) which belongs to Satpal Singh,father of the other boy in the car. The boy said the car had a Delhi Police sticker as one of his relatives is a Sub-Inspector in the force.

After the accident,the two boys tried to flee the spot,but were chased and caught by the locals. The police said that during questioning the 18-year-old claimed he was driving the car,but eyewitnesses clarified that the younger boy was at the wheel. The two boys are residents of Bakauli village.
