A Delhi court has ordered a TV serial producer to pay a monthly alimony of Rs 33,000 to his estranged wife, assessing his humongous income from the fact that he was being treated by a renowned doctor who also treats the nations President.
TV producer and director Khurshid Alam, owner of Tahura Films,a firm involved in production of films and tele-films,was ordered by Metropolitan Magistrate Vandana Jain on Thursday to pay the alimony amount during the pendency of the maintenance petition. Alams estranged wife had moved the court seeking Rs 50,000 as maintenance, alleging that he is financially well-off.
Alam had opposed his wifes plea for maintenance contending that he was suffering from several ailments, including liver cancer, hernia and thyroid, and has been out of work since 2003.
Alams argument, however, backfired when the court said from the doctors prescription submitted by him, that he was being treated by Dr Harsh Mahajan, the radiologist to the President.
The court said the treatment and the reputation of the doctor indicated that Alam was well-off and his plea of financial instability could not be accepted.
From the pleadings it cannot be denied that he must be earning humongous amount of money so as to arrange funds for getting his treatment done, said the court. In these circumstances and keeping in view the status as well as the nature of work he was doing earlier, after deducting the medical expenses which he must be incurring, his income is assessed to be Rs 1 lakh per month, the court ordered.
Alam is a regular producer on the panel of Delhi Doordarshan as well as Srinagar (J&K) Doordarshan. Besides several serials,Alam has also directed and choreographed the tele serial Mehmood Ghaznavi and tele-film Mafinama in Kashmiri language, which were telecast from Srinagar Doordarshan.
Alams wife also alleged that he was earning a good amount from his property in Delhi and Kashmir.
