Police said the incident took place around noon when Raghuraj was driving to his office in his car. (File Photo)A man was allegedly assaulted with an iron rod by two men in broad daylight in Southeast Delhi’s Sarita Vihar on Friday, after one of the attackers suspected he tipped off authorities about an illegal construction, police said.
According to officers, information about a medico-legal case was received from Apollo Hospital at 1.04 pm at Sarita Vihar police station, stating that a man had been admitted with injuries sustained in an assault. The victim was Raghuraj Singh, a resident of Aali village. He works as an MTS employee at an MCD school.
Police said the incident took place around noon when Raghuraj was driving to his office in his car. As he reached Aali Extension near Mathura Road, two men on a motorcycle intercepted him. The duo, Mohit, and another yet-to-be-identified associate, allegedly stopped the vehicle, smashed its windshield, and attacked Raghuraj with an iron rod, leaving him with serious injuries on both legs. He was later taken to Apollo Hospital by family members and friends, where doctors informed police about the assault.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the motive behind the attack may have been personal enmity linked to a property dispute. Officials said Mohit had bought a plot in Aali Extension about two years ago and had carried out construction on it. Last month, a part of the structure was demolished by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA). Mohit reportedly suspected that Raghuraj had filed a complaint with the DDA, leading to the demolition, police said.
A case under sections 118(2), 126(2), 351(2)(3), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered at Sarita Vihar police station.
“The accused has been identified, and efforts are underway to apprehend him,” said DCP (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari, adding that the victim continues to receive treatment.
