Man arrested for robbing Rs 25 lakh from businessman in ‘thak-thak’ gang style; accomplices apprehended

The Delhi Police arrested a man in North East Delhi’s Seelampur for allegedly robbing Rs 25 lakh from a businessman using the ‘thak-thak’ gang’s modus operandi. His accomplices were also apprehended later.

An amount of Rs 50,000 was seized from the accused, identified as Deepak Swamy, 24, while Rs 15 lakh was recovered from the co-accused later. DCP (Northeast) Joy Tirkey said that on June 13 at around 5 pm, Mahender Saini, 40, was travelling from Tronica City to Ballabhgarh in his car, along with driver Imran.

At New Seelampur crossing, two individuals approached them on a motorcycle and informed the driver that oil was leaking from the car. “The driver got down to inspect it and Saini also got out. Just then, two bike-borne people came from behind and went away with the bags kept in the car’s rear,” the DCP said. Saini claimed to have received the money as part of payment for a land deal in Tronica City.

On June 20, police nabbed Swamy based on inputs from technical surveillance. The other accused, who were hiding in Uttarakhand, were identified as Indrajeet, Sahil and Jyoti. Sahil and a minor were later apprehended and Rs 15 lakh was recovered from them.
