Man arrested for acid attack on friend, police say both were in relationship with same woman

A 35-year-old man and his two accomplices were arrested Thursday for allegedly throwing acid on a chemist in Bawana, police said. The attack was an act of revenge as the main accused and the victim, who were friends, were allegedly in a relationship with the same woman.

The alleged incident happened on January 8 night when Prakash (26) was allegedly attacked outside his shop. The accused allegedly came in a car and threw acid before fleeing, police said.

The victim, who suffered burns on his face, is under treatment at Safdarjung Hospital. It is learnt the victim suffered reduction of his right eye vision. It will take a few days to ascertain if the damage is permanent. Police have identified the accused as Mukesh (35), Deepanshu and Suraj, both aged 24.  Officers said Deepanshu was hired by the main accused and was the one who stepped out of the car and threw the acid.

The accused disclosed that Mukesh and the victim were in a relationship with the same woman, the police said. “Due to this, a quarrel took place between them a year ago. To take revenge, the accused, with the help of his two friends, threw acid on the victim’s face,” an officer said. A legal action against the person who allegedly supplied the chemical will also be initiated, police added.
