Institutions in the Capital received bomb threats via email once again. This time, they were sent to 15 colleges across Delhi on Thursday afternoon. All of them were later declared a hoax.
Out of the 15 colleges, six were in the North Campus; one in South Campus; four in Southeast Delhi; and four more in Outer Delhi, South Delhi and Dwarka. On the list were Lady Shri Ram (LSR) College, Hansraj College, Ramjas College, Sri Venkateswara College and IP College. Delhi University’s South campus admin block also received the mail. LSR College was the first to receive the email and the rest of the colleges were marked in the CC section, said officers. It stated, “Bomb at University… it will blow up”.
Officials said the email was received between 2 pm and 4 pm and the Delhi Fire Services along with the Bomb Disposal Squad and police personnel were deployed. The entire premises of the colleges were checked and the email was declared a hoax, said police. No students were present inside the colleges at the time, said officers, so there was no panic.
On the origin of the email, a senior police officer said a Cyprus-based email service was used. The search operation went on for two to three hours. “The sender has used a Cyprus-based email service… further efforts to get more details regarding the sender is underway,” added the officer.
In the past few weeks, over 150 schools in Delhi-NCR, hospitals, IGI airport, and the North Block have received hoax bomb emails. The cases have been clubbed and lodged with the Delhi Police Special Cell’s Counter-Intelligence Unit where a probe into IP addresses from which these emails have been sent is underway.
