The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which put its flagship poll agendas of Lokpal and Swaraj on the backburner this season, said it would announce the party’s blueprint for governance in the capital on Tuesday.

In February last year, the AAP government had resigned 49 days after forming the government on the issue of the Delhi Lokpal Bill. As part of its manifesto formulating process, the party, in its last Delhi Dialogue in Patparganj, will re-iterate its anti-corruption poll plank.
Stressing on the importance of the party’s announcement, the AAP, in a statement, said, “The AAP is committed to put in place an exemplary anti-corruption infrastructure and the Lokpal is one of the most important institutions to strengthen the fight against corruption.”

Pointing out that the AAP government was forced to resign on the issue of Lokpal, the party said, “The AAP government was defeated on the floor of the Delhi Assembly on February 14, 2014, when the BJP and the Congress together voted against
the introduction of the Delhi Lokpal Bill.”

Apart from the Lokpal Bill, the party had planned to pass its Swaraj Bill — decentralising governance through mohalla sabhas in the capital — during its stint in February last year.

“AAP was formed following a popular movement in the country for the creation of a strong and effective Lokpal to eradicate corruption,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, the party has once again turned to its bijli-paani andolan, a poll plank which majorly worked in their favour in the last elections.

After releasing a white paper on power issues in the capital, the party will issue a detailed report on water supply.

As the party’s promises on power and water form the thrust of its agenda, the AAP will announce “its blueprint on lifeline water, universal access to water, its pricing policy and commitment to quality water”.

Stating that the report will form the basis of its governance documents, the AAP said, “The party has already put in public domain its white paper on electricity and the AAP’s proposed roadmap offering solutions for the capital’s energy problems.”
