Several areas in South Delhi faced powercuts of varying duration on Tuesday as a major distribution line had to be shut down due to ongoing work on a Commonwealth Games project. A power department official said the 220-KV transmission line from Maharani Bagh sub-station to Lodhi Road station was shut down due to ongoing construction of the elevated road over Barapullah Nallah. The areas that faced power cuts for two to five hours include Lodhi Road,Defence Colony,HUDCO Complex,Nizamuddin,Lajpat Nagar,Niti Bagh,Uday Park,Gulmohar Park,Sunder Nagar,Friends Colony,Maharani Bagh and East of Kailash. The cuts will continue till October 12,officials said. The elevated road over the Barapullah Nallah is being constructed to connect the Commonwealth Games village near the Akshardham Temple,on NH-24 in East Delhi,to the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium near Lodhi Road.
