The police identified the deceased as John Madrasi, a contract labourer who did menial jobs primarily related to drainage cleaning. (Representational)A 40-year-old contract labourer was stabbed to death by two drunk men after he confronted one of them for vomiting near his roadside bed under the Masoodpur flyover in Southwest Delhi on Tuesday, said the police.
The police identified the deceased as John Madrasi, a contract labourer who did menial jobs primarily related to drainage cleaning. The police arrested the two who allegedly stabbed him — Aman, 21; Jeevan, 27— and their friend Aamir, 18, who was along with them at the time of the attack.
A police control room call was received at 8.13 pm on Tuesday about John’s body, covered in a blood-stained t-shirt, was found on a pavement near the Masoodspur flyover.
According to the police, Aamir owed Rs 800 to Jeevan and asked him to meet near the flyover. Jeevan came with Aman, and the trio started drinking near the bushes there, said the police. John slept on the pavement near the bushes, with his bed set up near the trio.
The police said John requested some liquor from the trio, and they offered him some. While drinking with them, Aman allegedly puked near John’s bed. John objected to it and even abused Aman, said the police. Aman became agitated and stabbed John in his chest by breaking a liquor bottle, a police officer said.
Meanwhile, Jeevan grabbed a knife from John’s bedside, which belonged to the deceased, and allegedly stabbed John in the abdomen, said the police.
“A CCTV footage showed the three men leaving the area around 6.45 pm. All of them were identified and arrested from Sapera Basti, where they resided,” a police officer said.
The police said Aman is a beggar and a ragpicker, Jeevan is a drummer, and Aamir works at a private company at Narsingpur in Haryana.
