Kidnapper goes back on deal, kills 7-yr-old boy

A seven-year-old boy was kidnapped and murdered in northeast Delhi on Monday night.

A seven-year-old boy was kidnapped and murdered in northeast Delhi on Monday night. The body was found in a drain near Welcome Metro station the following day.

Sources said the child,Tilak Raj Kumar, was playing with his nine-year-old brother,Suvam, around 6.30 pm on Monday while their mother was working in the kitchen. When she emerged out of the kitchen an hour later, she found only Suvam. Fearing the worst, she informed Tilak’s father,Kanhaiya Lal (28).

“We searched the area for an hour but when we couldn’t find him,we informed the police,” said Lal. Following this,a case of kidnapping was registered at the Welcome police station.

Around 6.17 pm on Tuesday, the father received a call from the alleged kidnapper. “After informing me that he had abducted the child,he demanded a ransom of Rs 1 lakh. He also said that if the demand was not met,the child would be sold,” he said.

However,Lal told the kidnapper that it was impossible for him to come up with an amount that high — considering that he earned just Rs 5,000 a month. Following this, the kidnapper brought down the ransom amount to Rs 50,000.

“We had no choice but to accept the demand. When I asked the kidnapper to explain how I could pay the money and get my son back,he told me to expect a call from him in three hours,” said Lal.

However, the call did not come, and attempts by the family to get in touch with the kidnapper went in vain.

When informed, the police traced the number to a PCO at Mansarovar Park. But there was no news from that front until 10.30 am on Wednesday, when the family received a call from the police — stating that the body of the child had been found in a drain near the Welcome Metro station.

“My son had injuries on his head. I can’t believe they would do this to a child. They could have waited,we would have given them the money,” said a visibly devastated Lal.

A case has been registered,DCP (North East) Sanjay Jain said.
