With the AAP making headlines over the last two weeks over conflict within its ranks and emergence of stings tapes, party chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s return to the capital on Monday evening is expected to bring some clarity.

In the time he was away at Bangalore, availing treatment for diabetes and chronic cough, the AAP had removed two of its senior leaders — Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav — from the party’s decision-making body, the Political Affairs Committee (PAC).

Kejriwal’s return to the city is likely to set things in motion, sources said. A senior AAP leader said, “We are awaiting Arvind’s return. A lot has happened in his absence and some semblance of order is expected soon.”

With his sugar level rising to 300 units nearly two weeks ago, Kejriwal had decided to get naturopathy treatment in Bangalore.

On March 4, the National Executive of the AAP met at Kapashera and voted for the removal of Yadav and Bhushan from the PAC. The development took place a couple of days after the party infighting came to the fore following leaks of a slew of e-mails written by the AAP’s internal Lokpal, Admiral Ramdas.

Ramdas’s letter spoke about the presence of two camps in the party and Bhushan’s concerns about the candidate selection process, especially regarding a liquor case in which Uttam Nagar MLA Naresh Balyan was allegedly involved prior to polls.

Following the leak of Ramdas’s letter, the turmoil in the AAP came out in the open and allegations were levelled against Yadav for planting anti-Kejriwal stories in the media and Bhushan for allegedly asking supporters to refrain from campaigning in Delhi and donating to the party.

During Kejriwal’s absence, former AAP MLA from Rohini Rajesh Garg released an audio recording in which Kejriwal is purportedly heard asking him to “break the Congress” after Lok Sabha elections. This was followed by another “sting” in which Kejriwal is purportedly heard speaking about the Muslim community.

The embarrassments continued for the AAP with the High Court also pulling up Law Minister Jitendra Singh Tomar over a case alleging that he had submitted fake undergraduation certificate.
