JNU students’ union to hold torch march on December 23 against new manual, proctorial inquiries
The JNUSU is also initiating a signature campaign to highlight the demands that they are making.

The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) has said that it will hold a torchlight march on December 23 to protest against the penalties mentioned in the Chief Proctor Office manual and the proctorial inquiries against students.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the JNUSU said that they have submitted a memorandum to the Vice Chancellor of the University asking that the ongoing inquiry against students by the Chief Proctor’s Office on protests be stopped, the manual be withdrawn, and the JNUSU elections be announced immediately.
“We have decided to extend no further cooperation with the Chief Proctor’s Office until the Chief Proctor’s Office Manual is withdrawn and unjust punishments revoked…we shall be forced to initiate peaceful non-cooperation with the entire JNU administration if the demands are not addressed before the commencement of the winter semester in 2024,” the statement read.
The JNUSU is also initiating a signature campaign to highlight the demands that they are making.
“The V-C had said earlier that once PhD admissions are done, JNUSU elections will be held. By January, PhD admissions are likely to be complete. The administration should put out a tentative date for JNUSU elections,” said Md Danish, JNUSU Joint Secretary.
“Dissent and dialogue are important in a university…the manual says that if you protest asking for basic rights, disciplinary action will be taken,” he added.
