Jet Airways pilot Vikas Aggarwal, who was arrested after his car ran over the manager of Amici cafe in Khan Market on Tuesday, was granted bail by the Delhi Police early on Wednesday morning. The police have filed a case under Section 304(A) of IPC (causing death due to rash and negligence act). The offence was bailable, hence he was granted the bail around 2 am on Wednesday after his father Vinod Kumar Aggarwal submitted a bond of Rs 50,000, said an officer. He will appear in the court after a chargesheet is filed following an investigation. The FIR filed at the Tughlaq Road police station noted that Aggarwal ran over Rajiv Wilson Jolly to save himself from the victim, who was quarreling with him. Preliminary investigations have also refuted the earlier speculations that it was a case of road rage and Aggarwal had gone over Jolly a couple of times. According to the evidence available till now,it doesnt appear to be a case of road rage. It was a just a fatal accident. in fact, the victim himself was the offender as he had taken up the fight, Tughlaq Road station SHO Anil Yadav told Newsline. The account of eyewitness Irfan also confirmed the police claim,he added. A police officer said it could not be concluded that Aggarwal intended to cause the death,as Jolly seemed to be hit accidentally when Aggarwal was trying to move away. In cases of road rage, the accused is the offender, but here the deceased was the offender. Jolly began the scuffle. Preliminary investigation of the car by the FSL staff also ruled out road rage.
