I-T office to have a new address — Civic Centre

“Taxpayers will now be hosted at the new income tax office for a slew of services rendered by the department including tax filing. The centre is very close to the Metro station at the New Delhi Railway Station,” a senior I-T officer said.

The Union Cabinet had recently approved Rs 2,000 crore to the department for the purchase of office space in the Civic Centre,the tallest building in the Capital.

The I-T department will have an area of about 52,000 square metres in the E-Block,along with separate flanks for service areas and a dedicated car parking for 1,110 vehicles.

At present,the I-T department’s offices for tax filing and other taxpayer-related services are situated at the Mayur Bhawan on Barakhamba Road and Central Revenues Building at ITO.

“The front offices,Aaykar Sampark Kendras (single window) and other such service outlets will be shifted to the new building and this will help in providing us better services to taxpayers,” a I-T officer at Mayur Bhawan said.

The I-T department in Delhi is the second largest collector of direct taxes in the country but the acute shortage of office space has been troubling it for quite some time.

The new I-T centre will also cater to taxpayers from the National Capital Region (NCR) for some services,the officer said.
