The Crime Branch on Tuesday began investigations into allegations of police harassment made by industrialist Samir Thapar following Friday night’s fracas involving Jessica Lal murder convict Manu Sharma and friend Sahil Dhingra.

The Crime Branch on Tuesday began investigations into allegations of police harassment made by industrialist Samir Thapar following Friday night’s fracas involving Jessica Lal murder convict Manu Sharma and friend Sahil Dhingra.

This comes a day after Sharma returned to Tihar Jail 12 days before his parole was to end amid controversy surrounding his conduct at a city nightclub on Friday night while out on parole.

Thapar had alleged that the police arrested him from the lounge bar LAP,in Samrat Hotel, after Sharma and Dhingra were embroiled in a fracas at another nightclub.

The investigators are analysing CCTV footage gathered from LAP and are taking statements of the staff and security guards to learn more about the incident.

Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal had on Tuesday ordered a Crime Branch inquiry into Thapar’s allegations.

Thapar today told Newsline: “I am happy the Crime Branch is carrying out investigations. All I want is justice, for I don’t know why I was booked.”

Thapar said he wants three officers from Chanakyapuri police station — the Station House Officer (SHO),Additional SHO and the ACP — to face strict action. “I was illegally detained,” he said. “I initially presumed they (policemen) were taking me to the police station and would leave me after a while, but they arrested me and I had to bail myself out.”

Crime Branch officials today also asked Thapar some questions about the incidents late Friday night. He was asked about his presence at LAP and whether he took Dhingra and Sharma inside LAP as guests, among others. “I told them the truth: I did not have any interaction with Dhingra and I don’t even recognise Manu Sharma,” Thapar said. “At LAP,a person needs to be signed in if guests are coming with him.”

Now,Manu says didn’t go to F-Bar
After the high drama at F-Bar and LAP club on Friday night,Manu Sharma now claims he is clean. According to sources at Tihar Jail,Sharma has told jail officials that he was in no way involved in any fracas with top cop Y S Dadwal’s son Pranay. He,in fact, claims,he did not even go to F-Bar that night, according to sources. “He told us that he only went to LAP,and that he was being dragged unnecessarily into controversy,” the source said.
