A delegation of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI), led by its President Andrews Thazhath, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday.

The leaders assured the PM of their support in nation-building efforts even as they raised concerns regarding alleged attacks on Christians and misuse of anti-conversion laws while pressing for Christian, Dalit and Tribal Rights representation in the National Commission, and peace in Manipur.

The delegation included Vice-President of CBCI Joseph Mar Thomas, Secretary General Anil Couto, and Deputy Secretary General Mathew Koyickal. The delegation brought to the PM’s attention difficulties faced by Christian NGOs during FCRA registration renewal process. “The PM assured us he will look into our issues,” said the CBCI president.
