In Gurgaon,insurance agent caught carrying arms,ammunition

The Gurgaon police have arrested a 30-year-old insurance agent carrying a hand grenade,a bomb,a countrymade pistol and eight live cartridges from Farrukhnagar on Wednesday.

The Gurgaon police have arrested a 30-year-old insurance agent carrying a hand grenade,a bomb,a countrymade pistol and eight live cartridges from Farrukhnagar on Wednesday.

He was arrested from D Hotel after the police got a tip-off. Rakesh Kumar,whose father Ishwar Kumar is a retired army personnel and a resident of Ghosgarh village,said during interrogation that one Inderjeet,from Farrukhnagar village,had given him the grenade and the bomb. One Sandeep from Aligarh,UP,had asked him to keep the pistol and live cartridges which he had brought to sell.

According to Investigating Officer Jaswant Singh,the cartridges could be for SLRs and AK-47 rifles. The grenade,he said,was of a kind available with the Army. The police are investigating how the ammunition reached him.

The police have called over ballistic experts to examine the recovered arms. “The hand grenade has a dysfunctional trigger. The experts will confirm whether these can be used or are merely practice ammunition,” said Gurgaon Police Commissioner,SS Deswal. Kumar’s elder brother,who worked with the Army,has taken voluntary retirement. He has another brother,who is currently with the Army.

Kumar has been booked under relevant sections of the Arms Act.
