In colony where Avinash Rout lived, other dengue-hit recover

In the same block in Lado Sarai where seven-year-old Avinash Rout — who died of dengue last week – lived, three more children and one woman had contracted the virus in the span of a month. While three recovered, one of them is still undergoing treatment.

15-year-old Shristi Rai’s condition began to slide when she complained of high fever and pain in her legs on Friday evening. Her mother immediately took her to a doctor.

“The doctor confirmed that she has dengue and advised complete rest and a liquid diet,” said Sangeet, Rai’s mother.

She added that she has been living in the area for the last three years and that municipal authorities have not come even once to carry out fogging. “It took three deaths to wake up the authorities,” she said.

In a building beside theirs lives 11-year-old Ishika Sejwal. She was diagnosed with dengue on September 3, after which her platelet count dropped from 1.66 lakh to 1.3 lakh.

“I was on complete liquid died and drank the juice of papaya leaves. I feel better now,” said Ishika.

A few metres away in a different building, lives 26-year-old Supriya Bharti. She contracted a high fever on August 23 and complained of dizziness.

“I was diagnosed with dengue. My doctor told me to take proper care,” said Bharti. She said she was asked to get her platelet count checked on a regular basis .

Eight-year-old Arshata Laris was also diagnosed with dengue on September 7 and relied completely on bed rest for a week to get cured. “I did not allow her to play,” said Larish Ravindra, Arshata’s father.
