Cops screen over 5,000 people, dozens of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants deported from Delhi
Delhi Police have intensified efforts to address concerns over undocumented migrants following a December 10 order from the L-G secretariat.

Over 5,000 people questioned, their documents screened, and 30 among them deported for staying illegally in India — the Delhi Police has intensified its special drive against illegal immigrants.
The ongoing verification drive, following L-G V K Saxena’s order on December 10, is aimed at identifying, detaining and repatriating foreign nationals residing in the Capital without valid documents, police said.
The Indian Express reached out to Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) of multiple districts to ascertain the status of the drive.
DCP, South Delhi, Ankit Chauhan: He said documents of over 1,500 people have been checked so far in his district. Of these, 12 Bangladeshi immigrants were found to be illegally residing in the country, and have been deported as per procedure, he added.
DCP, Southwest Delhi, Surendra Choudhary: He said 10 alleged illegal Bangladeshi migrants were identified and deported from the district after document verification of over 500 people.
DCP, Southeast Delhi, Ravi Kumar Singh: He said 12 people have been arrested or deported so far, while documents of 1,297 people have been checked during the ongoing verification drive.
DCP, Outer Delhi, Sachin Sharma: Sharma said 175 individuals suspected of being Bangladeshi immigrants were identified for further investigation. Over 1,000 people have been checked so far.
DCP, North Delhi, Raja Banthia: He said two Bangladeshi nationals have been deported following document verification of around 500 people.
DCP, Northeast Delhi, Rakesh Paweriya: He said five Bangladeshi nationals were deported after verification of 60 people in the district.
DCP, Rohini, Amit Goel: Even though no illegal immigrants have been found in Rohini so far, Goel said 734 immigrants have been covered under the drive.
DCP, Outer North Delhi, Nidhin Valsan: Around 550 suspects underwent a screening process in the district but nobody was found to be lacking relevant documents, he said.
15 deportations this weekend
This weekend, police said they deported 15 more alleged illegal Bangladeshi immigrants through the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) from South and Southwest districts.
DCP Choudhary said on Friday, that a team from Vasant Kunj South police station identified a family of eight Bangladeshi nationals residing in Southwest Delhi’s Rangpuri area. “Originally from Kekerhat village of Madaripur district in Bangladesh, Jahangir, his wife Parina Begam, and their six children illegally entered India via unofficial routes and had been living in the country without valid documents. After thorough verification, appropriate legal action was taken and they have been deported to Bangladesh through FRRO,” he said.
The DCP added that in the last 2-3 weeks, police teams conducted door-to-door document verification of nearly 400 families in the area. “During the drive, they collected verification forms (parcha-12) and sent them to their respective homes in West Bengal for further verification. A special team was also sent to West Bengal to conduct manual checks.”
In another operation Saturday, seven illegal immigrants from Bangladesh were apprehended near Arjan Garh Metro Station. “On checking, their Bangladesh citizenship documents were recovered. They were then produced at the FRRO in RK Puram and following completion of the necessary documentation, they were detained at the centre at Inderlok before final deportation,” said DCP Chauhan.
On December 12, DCP (Shahdara) Prashant Priya Gautam said police teams collected documents from 32 suspected individuals for verification.
DCPs of other districts did not respond when contacted.
