Barely hours before the murder of the elderly couple in Amar Colony area in the early hours of Friday, officials posted at police stations of Southeast district had been ordered not to take daily night off.

The order came from DCP (Southeast) Mandeep Singh Randhawa after he noticed that inspectors and sub-inspectors were not performing duty during night hours, said sources. In his order, Randhawa has prohibited officers from taking daily night offs. From now on, they can take one night off in a week, only after taking the permission of their concerned Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), according to the order. Randhawa has warned of action if officers violate the order.

In his order, Randhawa said it came to light that upper subordinates left their place of duty during night to go home without prior intimation or permission of their ACPs, causing inconvenience and embarrassment when information was required on some case/complaint.

“It has now been decided that all the upper subordinates will remain present in their respective police stations and only be permitted to take one night off in a week. Before taking any night leave, they have to take written permission from their concerned ACP,” states his order.
